When you schedule a family vacation, you want every member of the family to enjoy it. And with 85 million people visiting water parks each year, it’s safe to say that they’re a crowd-pleasing attraction. If you’re staying at the Oak Haven Resort & Spa, Soaky Mountain Waterpark is only a few minutes away. Let’s take a moment to learn more about this waterpark and its attractions to see how to fit it into you and your family’s vacation itinerary.
What Are the Attractions?
Soaky Mountain Waterpark is an outdoor water-based amusement park, complete with little kids’ rides and even ones for adults and thrill seekers. The park has body slides named after the sounds sliders often make on their way down through the tubes, twists and turns, including a slide named Holler! and one named Whoop!, which starts with a countdown until the floor drops, and you speed through the rest of the slide.
For those who would rather take it easier, there’s a lazy river ride, but don’t let the name fool you. The Black Bear Rapids is a 24,000 square feet of “river” you float through on a raft. Sometimes it creates some serious waves, so while it’s not exactly a “lazy” river, all you have to do is get on your raft and let it take you for a ride.
What Are the Dining Options?
Anywhere you visit, your kids are going to get hungry. Fortunately, Soaky Mountain has Philly Up! — an eatery that specializes in Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, complete with cheese whiz, if you desire.
They have beverages, along with various appetizers. Soaky Mountain also has a frozen yogurt shop, food carts and more.
Operating Hours
The park is only open starting in mid-May and extending throughout the summer.
The hours are either 10 am to 6 pm or 10 am to 8 pm, depending on the day; however, their hours are subject to change, so look before you go.
Types of Rides
This park is 50 acres of water fun, including body slides, tube slides, a 35,000-square foot wave pool and a lazy river with a whitewater finish. The park also has an inflatable water obstacle course, which people run across and try not to fall in.
Little ones may enjoy The Hive, which is a play zone especially for smaller children. It features smaller waterslides, a large bucket of “honey” that dumps periodically and various other activities.
